The Minotaur, a dedicated Vident Obscura vessel, was constructed at the Umbral Shipyards in the Schatten Star System and completed on December 26th, 2385. Assigned to TEMPCOM for research and development, its true mission remains classified to all but flag officers. Refitted according to the guidelines for Galaxy and Nebula Class vessels, the Minotaur incorporates additional modifications.
Due to its investigative nature, the Minotaur's command crew, including the CO and XO, possesses personal vessels for conducting investigations. The Minotaur also features a dedicated and protected computer core, serving as a HAL 9000 primary hub, and utilizes a Multinodal Core for a Master Systems AI, optimizing performance and integration.
Special Capabilities
- Videns Autem Magia Crystals
- The Minotaur's internal and external sensor systems, as well as its mission variable sensor/weapon pod, have been upgraded with Videns Autem Magia crystals. These unique crystals enhance the ship's sensor capabilities, enabling it to detect and analyze supernatural energies, anomalies, and artifacts more effectively. These crystals provide an edge in uncovering and understanding the unexplained phenomena encountered during the ship's missions.
- Research and Development Facilities
- The Minotaur serves as a dedicated research and development platform, equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, specialized equipment, and scientific facilities. These resources allow the crew to conduct in-depth studies on unexplained artifacts and further their understanding of supernatural forces. The ship's comprehensive research facilities provide an ideal environment for experimentation, analysis, and the advancement of knowledge in the field.
- Personal Investigative Vessels
- Recognizing the need for agile investigations and focused explorations, the Minotaur's command crew, including the CO, XO, and other personnel, possess personal vessels. These smaller craft are utilized to conduct investigations and explorations away from the main ship. The personal investigative vessels enable the crew to venture into various locations and environments, independently gathering data and pursuing leads related to unexplained phenomena. These vessels serve as valuable tools in expanding the ship's reach and enhancing its investigative capabilities.
- Dedicated and Protected Computer Core
- The Minotaur is equipped with a dedicated and highly secure computer core that operates as a primary hub, akin to the iconic HAL 9000. This advanced computer system provides powerful processing capabilities, ensuring efficient data management, complex computations, and seamless integration of ship-wide systems. The protected nature of the computer core safeguards critical operations and prevents unauthorized access, enhancing the ship's overall security and reliability.
- Multinodal Core for Master Systems AI
- The Minotaur incorporates a Multinodal Core, allowing for the integration of a Master Systems AI. This advanced AI serves as the central intelligence overseeing and coordinating various ship systems, including navigation, power distribution, tactical operations, and more. The Multinodal Core enhances the ship's efficiency, enabling seamless communication between different subsystems, rapid response to changing conditions, and intelligent decision-making in complex situations. The Master Systems AI acts as a crucial asset in optimizing the ship's performance and supporting the crew in their missions.
History
The Minotaur was commissioned in 2371 with construction completed in 2372. However, during the initial testing phase, the ship encountered some minor difficulties with its engines, requiring additional repairs and adjustments. As a result, the Minotaur had to spend an additional six months in space dock to address these issues and ensure optimal performance.
Finally, in 2373, after the necessary modifications and repairs were completed, the Minotaur underwent its final shakedown cruise. This comprehensive test and evaluation period allowed the crew to thoroughly assess the ship's systems, ensuring everything was functioning as intended and that the vessel was ready for active service.
Following the successful shakedown cruise, the Minotaur was officially put into service and assigned its command crew. Under the leadership of Commander Torm Shol as the Commanding Officer and Lieutenant Commander Amber Cross as the Executive Officer, along with Operations Officer Gerhard "Pip" Kalbfleisch and Artificial Intelligence Ara Volans, the command crew took charge of the Minotaur and embarked on their mission to explore and investigate unexplained phenomena.
