Gerhard is an honest man, welcoming to most anyone who comes into his life, and generally friendly. He is well mannered and self confident, though can be a bit inconsiderate to others without intending to be. He tries to be carefree and to live in the moment, having an impulsive nature. He avoids conflict and tries to be logical when faced with a challenging situation, though most often he is his own worst enemy getting himself into trouble when bored. He is known to have rather intense eyes, though his personality rarely matches that intensity unless it is something he is deeply passionate about or when his emotions flare.

Background
Gerhard grew up on Trocara and watched it grow, especially after the explosive growth of the mining industry. Both of his parents were prominent in that industry. His mother was a master of trade negotiations and was responsible for some of the biggest trade deals of her day. His father was a fleet manager for the largest of the Markabian Mining Confederation fleets in the belt, with a high safety and production rating. Both his parents retired shortly after the formation of the Serenity Concord, somewhat distrustful of forming a government outside of the Federation.
His family has always been very proud of their ancestry, they say they can trace their lineage to an American scientist of the same last name, who made important discoveries in the area of high energy physics in the mid 20th century. As such, his parents prized science and a scientific education. Gerhard obtained a bachelors degree in physics from the University of Trocara at the age of 22, though he never worked in the field. Getting the degree was something he did mostly to satisfy his parents. Though he doesn't regret his time at the university, it did show him he was not really cut out for academia and lead him to search for another path in life.
As a young man Gerhard grew up hearing stories about Starfleet but was rather disabused of the organization after the Dominion War and all the suffering. Many of his school friends went to war and never came home. As a young adult he worked under his father for the Confederation and learned some really valuable skills there, particularly piloting. Still it wasn't what he wanted to do with his life. After a great deal of soul searching he finally became a pilot for Solas Tempus, running cargo mostly. Eventually he joined as an officer and worked his way up the ranks to become a Commander and was offered a position as not only a Temporal Operative but as an Agent for Vident Obscura.
