A refitted Miranda-class starship operating under Solas Tempus, the Horizon Pathfinder (STV-1142) is a survey and exploration ship assigned to Althea Terminal, which serves as its home base. Tasked with charting surrounding systems and assessing planets, the vessel is engineered for long-duration operations outward from the neutral outpost. Modified from its 23rd-century specifications, the ship features astrometrics labs, multi-spectral sensor suites, and an upgraded warp drive designed to sustain high velocities over interstellar distances without maintenance.
Special Capabilities
- Advanced Astrometrics Array: Equipped with a stellar cartography suite, the Horizon Pathfinder can map star systems, track gravitational anomalies, and plot slipstream or warp corridors from light-years away.
- Automated Survey Drone Bay: Utilizing the modular bays of the Miranda class, the ship houses a section dedicated to launching probe networks. These drones assess planetary biospheres, atmospheric compositions, and mineral deposits before a manned team is deployed.
- Adaptive Environmental Shielding: The vessel possesses a reinforced shield grid designed to withstand stellar phenomena, radiation storms, and spatial anomalies rather than direct combat.
Mission
The Horizon Pathfinder conducts exploration efforts from Althea Terminal to discover new worlds and phenomena. Its objectives include:
- Stellar Cartography: Mapping sectors and establishing navigational routes for Solas Tempus operations.
- Ecological Assessment: Surveying worlds for scientific potential, habitability, and biological or geological features.
- First Contact & Diplomatic Outreach: Serving as a representative of Solas Tempus when encountering civilizations or outposts.
- Anomaly Investigation: Providing analysis of spatial, temporal, and energetic anomalies.
Crew
The command crew of the Horizon Pathfinder operates with a balanced approach to deep-space exploration, combining field experience with rigorous logistical planning. Captain Thorne’s hands-on leadership is supported by Commander Vance’s strict operational discipline, ensuring the safety of the crew during long-duration missions. The AI Julian Locke acts as the analytical bridge between command and operations, utilizing predictive modeling to streamline decision-making. Together, this triad effectively manages the unpredictable nature of survey operations conducted outward from Althea Terminal.
Commanding Officer: Captain Silas Thorne (Male, Human, 52)
- An explorer and former stellar cartographer, Silas is a pragmatic officer. He values scientific discovery but prioritizes crew safety.
- He has a weathered appearance and an observing demeanor.
- Silas leads during away missions and studies historical exploration logs.
Executive Officer: Commander Kaelen Vance (Female, Orion, 38)
- A xenobiologist and tactician, Kaelen manages ship logistics and crew readiness.
- She maintains a disciplined posture, keeping her hair cropped and her uniform immaculate.
- She is protective of the ship's scientific data and runs simulations to prepare the crew for first-contact scenarios.
Master Systems AI: Julian Locke (Male-Presenting AI, 8)
- An analytical AI designed to process telemetry and biological data. Julian Locke is formal and precise.
- His holographic avatar manifests as a 19th-century Earth scholar, complete with a waistcoat and pocket watch.
- Julian focuses on predictive algorithms, anticipating the needs of the bridge crew during anomaly navigations.
History
Built in 2285 as the Starfleet vessel USS Horizon Pathfinder (NCC-18912), she was a first-generation Miranda-class starship designed for patrol and scientific missions. After over a century of service across multiple eras of Starfleet history, the vessel was slated for decommissioning in 2384. Solas Tempus acquired the hull shortly after for deep-space applications. After modifications and engine overhauls, the ship was rechristened the STV Horizon Pathfinder with a new registry of STV-1142.
Service History from Starfleet
- 2288: The Kavarian Nebula Survey: The Horizon Pathfinder mapped the Kavarian Nebula. The data collected advanced Starfleet's understanding of protostar formation and earned the ship a citation for scientific excellence.
- 2312: Operation Lifeline: During a subspace rupture in the Beta Quadrant, the ship served as an evacuation transport, using its sensors to navigate the spatial tears and rescue stranded colonists.
- 2374: Dominion War Rear-Guard: The ship was pressed into service during the Dominion War. It conducted resource surveys and escorted convoys to maintain Federation supply lines, evading Jem'Hadar patrols.
- 2378: The Ocampa Array Relics: Assigned to a listening post, the ship intercepted and decoded transmissions originating from the Delta Quadrant, contributing data to the analysis of the USS Voyager's journey.
- 2384: Decommissioning: With the introduction of multi-role vessels, the Horizon Pathfinder was retired from Starfleet service and placed in the surplus shipyards.
Service History with Solas Tempus
Solas Tempus purchased the vessel in 2384. It was transported to a classified shipyard where its interior was rebuilt to support independent missions. The refit transformed the ship into an explorer. It launched under the Solas Tempus banner in 2386.
- 2386: The Void-Space Mapping: The refitted ship mapped a network of wormholes bordering Solas Tempus territory, establishing a baseline for navigation charts.
- 2387: Discovery of Marisara: The Horizon Pathfinder embarked on a survey of the Althea Star System. The crew charted the depths of Marisara, an ocean world. The ship's assessments led to Solas Tempus establishing the Althea Terminal outpost on the planet, which subsequently became the vessel's permanent home base.
- 2389: The Whispering Comet Encounter: While tracking a comet, Julian Locke identified an artificial structure embedded within the ice. The investigation recovered a data-cache, adding petabytes of linguistic data to the Solas Tempus archives.
