Officer commissions normally come through the Solas Tempus Academy or by directly transfer rank commissions from other organizations. While in times of military past commissions were granted based on money, wealth, and power. In further ages there was still this idea that officer commissions were for the educated, those with college degrees which often translated to money and power.
Within Solas Tempus, an officers commission is granted based on talent at the behest of the higher admiralty of the organization. An Admiral has the right to grant a commission to anyone, member of the organization or not, to those they feel are either worthy or needed. Granting an officers commission without forcing a person to go to the Solas Tempus Academy requires that an Admiral or higher grant a field commission.
Non Commissioned Officers
Also called an NCO, is an officer by contract. Someone who has been contracted to Solas Tempus and signed an indefinite term contract allowing them to be granted the rank chosen within the terms of contract. The contract terms are up to the admiralty and may or may not specify specifically where and how the rank applies. In most cases, a rank is granted via contract that applies throughout the organization.
Field Commission
A field commission is granted by anyone of sufficient rank (generally a senior officer, Commander or above), temporarily in most cases, for a specific operation. A field commission fills a specific void and requires membership within Solas Tempus.
Full Commission
A full commission can only be granted by an Admiral or above, all graduates from the Academy have their initial commission granted by one of the admiralty. A full commission is good throughout the organization, not subject to terms and conditions other than those put in place by regulations or standing orders of higher officers.
