This is a guide to how Solas Tempus groups are defined, including Fleets, Groups, Light Craft, and Ground / Boarding Forces.
Starship Groupings
Solas Tempus does not usually use individual fleets of ships for tasks, preferring to use individual ships for various tasks. Most starships are very versatile, however when there is need a Fleet is composed of one or more Groups, also called Battle Groups for combat situations.
Designation
Fleets are designated either by their theater of operation or the title of an operation. If more than one fleet exist for a given area, very rare, then the number is before the name.
- Examples
- Schatten Fleet
2nd Schatten Exploration Fleet
Groups
Groups are also named after the theater of operation or operation name.
- Examples
- Markab Group
Markab Defense Group
Group Composition
A standard group consists of:
- 1 Capital Ship
- Sovereign, Galaxy, Nebula, Refit Constitution, or Miranda Class Starships
- Acts as the primary command vessel and carrier for the group
- 2-4 Frigates
- Steamrunner, Nova, or Intrepid Class Starships
- Usually 4 Frigates for a Sovereign, Galaxy, or Nebula Class / 2 for a Refit Constitution or Miranda Class
- Acts as primary defense for the command vessel, also assist in deploying or recovering fighters
- 4-8 Escorts
- NX, Saladin, or Defiant Class Starships
- Usually 2 per Frigate
Small Combat Space Craft
Fighter groups are divided into 3 types, Wings containing Squadrons, containing Flights. A Wing has a total of 6 Squadrons and each Squadron has 3 Flights. Wings are are designated with the name of the system, sector, or group they are assigned to, where as specific Squadrons are designated by a greek letter or color, and flights have numbers. No two Squadrons have the same name and number.
Squadron Designations
- Patrol Squadrons
- Alpha, Beta, Gamma, or Delta
- Interceptor Squadrons
- Epsilon, Zeta, Tau, or Sigma
- Assault Squadrons
- Theta, Lambda, Rho, or Omega
- Specialized Squadrons
- Black, Red, Gray, or White
Flight Designation
A flight does not reference the wing name unless asked to avoid the inevitably long names that would cause. Thus, a flight is designated as:
Squadron Name, Squadron Number, and Flight Number.
- Examples
- Alpha 2-1
Epsilon 9-3
Black 2-2
Craft Designation
Runabouts running electronic warfare, tracking, communications, and surveillance for a flight are designated Hawk with all other crafts having numbers.
- Examples
- Alpha 2-1-2
Epsilon 9-3-1
Black 2-2-4
Composition
A full squadron has a total of 3 flights of the same type (Interceptor Squadrons, Patrol Squadrons, etc.). Except for special Squadrons which are composed to the task of multiple flight types as needed by the Wing Commander.
The total number on people in Squadron depends on what kind it is.

Interceptor
Interceptor flights are used when an imminent threat is detected or to investigate anomalous readings during Condition 3 or Condition 1. These squads inhabit specially outfit Platform Stations near Solas Tempus facilities as well, to allow for a faster response time. Interceptor wings are also trained to do point defense for larger facilities and space craft.
Standard (5 Craft)
Long Range (5 Craft)
Assault
Assault flights are specifically outfit and trained to perform forward assault, first strike or retaliatory strikes on enemy targets. They are slower overall but equipped to inflict more damage.
Standard (7 Craft)
- Equipped with Transphasic Torpedoes
- Equipped with Transphasic Torpedoes
- 2 Flyer Class Shuttles equipped for bombing
- Equipped with Transphasic / Tricobalt Torpedoes.
- Equipped with Transphasic Mines
Heavy (7 Craft)
- Equipped with Transphasic Torpedoes
- Equipped with Transphasic Torpedoes
- 2 Flyer Class Shuttles equipped for bombing
- Equipped with Transphasic / Tricobalt Torpedoes.
- Equipped with Transphasic Mines
Patrol
Patrol flights are used for both maintaining security and investigation of most anomalous readings during normal conditions.
Standard (5 Craft)
Orbital (9 Craft)
Infantry Forces
Infantry, or ground forces, are used as "boots on the ground". They make up the armed forces which run security, compose boarding parties, and secure locations on foot.
Forces are broken into the following units:
- Squad (10 People)
- Platoon (4 Squads)
- Company (4 Platoons)
- Battalion (3 Companies)
- Regiment (5 Battalions)
- Division (4 Regiments)
The exact head-count for each particular unit can vary, roughly a single Division contains about 9,000-12,000 people depending on the actual makeup of each smaller unit within. Divisions also contain support personnel which are not divided into smaller units.
Squad Composition
Squads contain the following standard positions:
- Commanding Officer
- Executive Officer
- Communications / Technical Officer
- 6 Enlisted Personnel (Standard STS or TACCOM Training)
- 1 Enlisted Specialist (TACCOM or STS Trained Specialist)
The squad specialist varies depending on the squads general focus. This can be a demolitions expert, covert operations specialist, special weapons, or any other dedicated specialist to advise the squad and perform a desired function. Most often, a standard squad has a demolitions expert.
Types of Squads
Squads each have a specialized area of expertise.
- Recon
- The recon squads are assigned tactical specialist and receives specialized training as a front-lines unit specializing in clearing the way for forces to follow. They send back reports on troop strengths, positions, movements, and any other relevant information.
- Assault
- An assault squad is assigned a demolitions expert and receives specialized training as a breeching unit. Their job is to punch a hole in enemy forces, usually as large a hole as can be made, they then wedge themselves into said hole, making it bigger.
- Recovery
- Recovery squads are assigned a covert operations specialist. These units are specially trained to recover assets in the field, be those assets personnel or equipment. They focus on stealth, speed, and accuracy.
- Support
- A support squad is assigned a technical specialist and is trained to maintain and protect the flow of information in the field. They are assigned to clear communication lines, maintain equipment operations and security. These squads are especially effective in establishing new supply lines and lines of communication on the fly.
Transport
Given the variable nature of where a squad might be deployed, each Squad has its own transport assigned to it in the form of a Danube Class Runabout designated for the squad. Squads also can use Type 6 Shuttle Craft if a Danube is unsuitable for the task at hand.
