The vessel is one of several to be constructed as the Umbral Shipyards in 2386 following General Order 12 which mandated that flag officers be issued a vessel of this class for their personal vessels. In May of 2386 this vessel passed final inspections, having been constructed by the Fabber Vulcan it was actually constructed with superior quality to some of the other vessels which came off the general line of the shipyards.
In addition to its standard outfitting, the vessel is equipped with a specialized shield array constructed with Aqua Opal Crystals. This goes with it's sensor pallets being augmented with Videns Autem Magia. It is one of only a few vessels that are so equipped, this allows the vessel to have some success at detecting disturbances in Aethic flow, though range and resolution can be limited.
The Master Systems AI is Captain Amaya King, freshly certified from the Academy after specialized training on Nimbus Station. The AI has not only be trained as a Master Systems AI but also in the use of the specialized systems of the Eminent Midnight vessel. She is aware of the special nature of the vessel and what this ship and the STV Minotaur do.
