Ilyrias Thorne is a former Countermage of the Order of Chain and Falcon. He got kicked out of the Order for learning fate magic.
Personality
Towards his friends, Ilyrias is a quite fun person to talk to, yet, he’s a bit overprotective and values friendship very high.
Towards strangers, he’s a bit distant and cold, but soon warms up when they prove to be nice people. He’s quick with trusting anyone, and has a shitload of stories to tell, either about himself, his comrades in the Order of Chain and Falcon, or just random stories about how the people of the past messed up.
Breaking his trust is unforgivable for him.

- Lorekeeping: He has been studying the Lore of Soteria for 6 years now in Glinan’s Hold, the Headquarter of the Order of Chain and Falcon, a suborder of the Souls Templars.

Counter Magic
Counter Magic, putting it simple, is the art of magically counter attacks. Countermages are not able to perform magic attacks out of themselves. To attack someone, they need to wait for the aggressor to attack and then counter the attack using their magic.
Experienced and professional Countermages are able to counter a wide variety of attacks, ranging from normal magic attacks to psionic attacks (such as the seducing aura of a succubus), even physical attacks (such as an attack using a dagger or a sword) can be absorbed, converted into magic attacks and then send back at the attacker.
Illyrias can counter all three types to a certain degree and under certain circumstances.
Countermagic is entirely about creating a zone of convertion, where, when an attack hits that zone, the energy is absorbed, converted into a counterattack and unleashed at the mage’s will.
The basic principle of Countermagic is to absorb the energy of the attack and fling it back into the attacker. So, if you have a Countermage looking at you while you attack him, just don’t. The stronger you attack him or her, the stronger you’ll get your shit fucked.
Continuous counters are not possible. The counter must be in the moment or shortly after the attack was performed, but before it hits. It is possible, that an attack is not fully converted into a counter and remains (or even the main part) makes it through and hits the Countermage.

Background
He was born and raised in Glinan’s Hold, in the Kingdom of Braebar. His parents were common farmers, working for the royalty.
At the early age of 15, a mage of the Order of Chain and Falcon, which is a suborder of the famous Souls Templars, noticed the child’s magical talent and took him, with his parent’s allowance, to study the ways and arts of Countermagic, whose secrets are well hidden within the order.
Throughout his study, Ilyrias was a confident, patient and eager learner. His instructor, Calvor Pectus, was impressed about his pupil’s skill and talent.
At the age of 18, Ilyrias finished studying and finally served as a Countermage in the Order of Chain and Falcon. The Order is tasked with specialized bodyguarding of the Rose Council.
Years pass, and Ilyrias… Well, he chose to go his own path. He started studying Fate Magic without permission or knowledge of the Order and his superiors and got discovered, suspended from Service and kicked out of the Order with his magic abilities locked.
Due to a mistake made in the spell, it has worn out with time.
