Starting with World War 3 the US government began a development project, involving the creation of supernatural operatives for various covert intelligence and black ops operations worldwide. This project was later called the NightHunter Project, and the operatives it produced were identified as Night Hunters.
Night Hunters are specialized operatives, with advanced training in stealth, tracking, searching and killing. Many of these operatives were sent into deep cover situations, to collect information on hostile movements, or assassinate political leaders. During the war Night Hunters provided intelligence and marked key military targets for air strikes. They also identified weak-points in defenses, or created weak-points.
Many Night Hunters were magically and / or physically augmented supernatural creatures to enhance their abilities. among combat units their field wear often looked more old school or archaic in some cases, using crossbows, bows, arrows, and swords, instead of the standard equipment that most soldiers and military groups used.
The Night Hunters were technically a group that did not exist in the military, and thus were considered close to ghost stories. After World War 3 many Night Hunters continued their service as spies and espionage units, receiving upgrades as technology has improved.
After first contact, the unification of Earth, and the creation of the United Federation of Planets, the Night Hunters continued to be a secret organization, though their primary tasks shifted from assassinations, identifying targets, and information gathering, to secret service, and protection of various political leaders among the United Federation of Planets, although being a slightly more known group than a shadow organization, although they are still known for their mystery and unknown history.
Night Hunters now wear specialized Shadow Spector class suits, which are custom created for each operative, accompanied by a symbol typically now associated with the Night Hunters, helmets are fully retractable, often digitally assembling, repairing and retracting, although enough damage can crack and even break the helmet, and other pieces attached to the suit.
Night Hunters use a Hunter Class Gunship, known for its speed, sleek profile, and a full stealth suite, no physical markings, and an advanced Sensor suite. This ship was designed and equipped for quiet insertions and exertions in and out of various areas, this provided protection for Federation interests in unstable areas of space, by allowing them to eliminate potentially hostile groups and leaders, that would continue to destabilize the region. The Hunter Class Gunships are now used for aiding in the transportation of government officials under the NightHunter's guard, with several in reserve in case of damage or need for repair. The ship itself can be commanded and crewed by a single Night Hunter or a team of four.
