Mu Sigma Tau Delta (See Artifact Classification Table)

A pendant sundial craft in solid silver.

Properties

The pendant functions as a proper Earth sundial but when held up and used, the user can trigger an effect to be transported through time by speaking a time and place.

Invocation

The time and place must be spoken in Proto-Norse language dated to the 2nd to 8th centuries on Earth running along with the oldest Scandinavian Elder Futhark inscriptions. Pronunciation is key, even slight mispronunciations can cause wildly different destinations from the desired. There is also a component of mental focus involved in the usage where a clear idea of destination place and time must be maintained during the speaking. When the pendant is taken off after traveling or if the wearer speaks the word "Return" while holding the pendant up and looking through it, the person returns to their time and place of origin. A second important note is that when returning the amount of time that has passed for the person since they transported, has passed at their time of origin. If a person transports back to a particular year and spends 5 days there, when they return 5 days will have passed.

History

Origin

The origin of the item is unknown. Its craftsmanship and the methods required to make the object contrast starkly with the language used to activate the item. The sundial is made to function in a similar way to the Eleanor of Aquitaine sundial. Its craftsmanship also post-dates this era itself considerably though the silver itself dates to the 3rd century B.C.E..

19th Century

Diaries and written letters were discovered, including one sketch, which seems to identify that the item was found in the North Eastern regions of the Oregon Territory some time before the United Staes Civil War. There is some evidence that the owner of the device may have used it to alter past events. See Aevus Naviganti Research for more information.

Acquisition by Animas Tempus

This artifact found on Luna in the year 2377 by prospectors surveying a new site for a memorial. Buried on the lunar surface deep enough that there are serious questions about how it got there. First found by civilians the artifact was confiscated by Starfleet upon its discovery and later handed over for research to Solas Tempus since it was possible it might have time travel capabilities. Unable to explain its abilities through conventional means the artifact was given to Animas Tempus for study.
