Originally a support ship assigned to Deep Space 4 for defensive purposes. As such she was equipped with a high output deflector shield system and a specialized armor plating over the skin, increasing her relative mass by a significant amount and thus needed to have a higher output warp core and upgraded warp coils.
Service History
The ship was to be replaced, along with the other Danube Class Runabouts, by the newer Venture Class Runabout. However, at the outbreak of the Dominion War, Starfleet diverted the ship to assist in the defense of Vulcan and other core worlds. The ship saw significant combat but was never severely damaged, when the Fifth Fleet was moved from Vulcan, the Anand and several other ships were left behind.
Under the terms of their treaties with Solas Tempus for continued engineering support, Starfleet traded the vessel, and several others, to the organization in exchange for engineering services in helping to rebuild the Federation fleet after the Dominion War. Refit services were in short supply and few locations had the expertise to refit and extend the current Federation fleet. Solas Tempus's treaty with the Federation gives the framework for exchange of equipment in offering extended services. The engineering arm of Solas Tempus played a large, but overall hidden, role in refitting and repairing ships damaged or woefully under-equipped after the war.
Solas Tempus assigned the vessel to Captain Lee Armstrong Finnegan.
