This curious system exists inside one of the largest spacial rifts on record. It consists of five planets total and a single yellow star. The star itself has an extremely strong magnetic and subspace field and produces a large array of gravitational anomalies that move through the star system in spheroid orbits. Each disturbance effects the orbit and position of the disturbances near it. Navigation through the system is thus hazardous at the best of times.
Transit into the system is only safe when jumping through the distortion field. Either by use of a Jump Gate or through some other form of transportation which doesn't have to pass through the rift surrounding the system. Ships passing through the rift will suffer systems failures as well as the complete shutdown of their power systems. Although even giventhese facts, navigation through the rift is possible. Once through the boundaries of the rift power systems come back online and around 75% of the time have very little damage.
Planets
Schatten Prime
Classification: C
A solid rock world with a core composed of a mix of lead and a variety of radioactive isotopes. There is no life on this world, nor can it support life due to the intense radiation present. The planets orbit is elliptical for an unknown reason causing enough changes in gravity that tidal forces cause extreme tectonic shifts. Due to the planets extremely heavy core and large size it does retain enough pressure and gravity to have liquid water along with a thick atmosphere of exotic gases.
Leere
There is one satellite, Leere, which is even more effected by the tidal forces that trouble the planet. Continuously in tectonic upheaval with a thin crust and molten core. The cores composition is similar to the planet, mostly composed of liquid lead but with a mix of highly radioactive metals. Its orbit around Schatten Prime is erratic, likely due to anomalies shifting the gravitational field while it orbits.
Schatten II
Classification: C
A very small rocky world with no atmosphere composed of mostly iron but with trace amounts of most metals. This planet also has a very strange orbit but one less effected by gravitational shifts. It has a thin system of twisted rings which surround the planet, mostly composed of frozen small-chain hydrocarbons.
Schatten III
Classification: N
Similar to Schatten Prime but a much older world and thus its core has far fewer radioactive isotopes and more lead. The surface has little in the way of liquid water but does have a very thick atmosphere of gases giving way to extremely violent weather patterns. Its orbit is much more typical and it has a thin asteroid belt around it.
The Blazing Umbra Station also orbits this planet along with a Jump Gate and navigational beacons, field generators, and other such technology to help make navigation near the station less of a problem.
Schatten IV
Classification: I
This planet is made up of gaseous ammonia, methane, and ice with a probably small rocky core. It has a much thicker than average ice layer in the atmosphere than the mean average for a Class I planet. The ice layer is deep within the ammonia/methane upper atmosphere. There are six automated processing stations in orbit around this planet with collect heavy water (deuterium) from the ice-layer for use in fuel of Solas Tempus. In a higher orbit a deuterium refinery which is capable of utilizing subspace energy from nearby distortions to convert a portion of the deuterium to anti-deuterium for antimatter fuel. Due to the unstable nature of the region, the station still relies on antimatter supply shipments from the Saffron Consortium provided largely by the Markabian Mining Confederation, though a fair portion does come from other nearby sources.
Schatten V
Classification: J
Another gas world. This one, however, is a bit stranger and is composed almost entirely of hydrogen with a metallic hydrogen core. Somehow several large moons, approximately 9, have become caught in the gravity well just below the surface of the atmosphere. All the moons are relatively large and it is unclear how they maintain such strange orbital paths. The atmosphere has high concentrations of crystalized carbon dust throughout its upper and mid atmospheric regions. This causes the plants atmosphere to produce an incredibly bright glow from refracted and focused star-shine.
Soteria
The 7th moon of Schatten V evolved through an as yet not understood process to have a unique core of Thorium, Plutonium, and Uranium. This core along with the moons tidal forces keep the moons surface at temperatures comfortably within the M-Class range, unique carbon crystals arranged in a covalent network structure throughout the core also inhibit neutron production and collision. The moons surface is protected from its core radiation by naturally a carbon-lead mantle which also protects the planet from its hot internal radiation, allowing the heat itself to permeate to the surface. The carbon layers encapsulate the lead and act as a filtration system for the moons water cycle providing clean water on the surface. The body is just a bit larger than Earth's moon.
The focused star-shine generated by the planet itself allows 19 hour day/night cycles along with its 291 day year. The surface of the moon itself and an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere. The density of the metallic core provides gravity to approximately 82% of Earth normal gravity. Twice every year, however, the surface of the moon is plunged into for between 6-9 days while its orbit around the planet takes it away from the focal point of the planets star-shine.
The moon is about a 15 minutes shuttle ride from Blazing Umbra Station.
