Finnegan is a friendly sort called Finny by his closet friends. He is quick to laugh and easy to talk to, he can listen for hours to someone and appear to be the most interested person imaginable (even if he's not). Finny has often been told that he's got a face that engenders trust in those around him and he's always found this to be generally true. Preferring to diffuse situations with a good laugh or a mug of beer rather than his fists, some forget he is a skilled brawler having had more than one run-in with the law in his youth after a few too many.
Officially, Finnegan has command of a Danube Class runabout named the Anand, but he rarely uses the vessel.

Finnegan never felt right joining Starfleet but briefly did attend the Academy, mostly out of respect for his father who was an officer himself. Too prone to trouble the Academy gave him a choice to leave willingly or be sent home in disgrace after a heated bar brawl with a trio from the delegation of visiting Klingons. Even though the Klingons themselves were not offended, the school was deeply shamed by this. Finny himself was, to his mind, defending the Federations honor after pointed insults were being traded around about the Federation.
