After the vessels initial construction Katja Volkova was offered the assignment of the master systems AI and executive officer. She got along well with the crew but had been considering seeking a transfer. When Admiral D'Amico took over the ship, she decided to stay on. In its new role the vessel would be used less frequently and allow her more time to pursue personal interests.
