A powerful neurotoxin created when exposing crystalline salt from Than Dokes 5 to a highly oxygenated environment outside the presence of a hydrogen fluoride, which stabilizes the salt compound. At STP the reaction takes only a few seconds to occur and produces an odorless and colorless gas. Discovered on a survey mission in 2387 by the STV Dragons Fire.
The toxin quickly crosses the blood-brain barrier once inhaled and begins to destroy the mylar sheaths of nerve endings in the brain and throughout the central nervous system. The toxin itself is a catalyst and thus is not consumed by the reaction, making it an incredibly effective and pervasive compound once in the body. The only known treatment is to preserve neural activity at nearly 100% of capacity until the toxin can be removed, destroyed portions of the nervous system must be removed or they will become necrotic. The toxin can be neutralized by application of a mix of chemically modified neurotransmitters associated with pain. This is the only known treatment.
Without treatment a subject exposed to the gas would be dead due to complete neurological collapse within 15-20 minutes of exposure.
