The trans-dimensional beacon is a specialized device that uses a complex series of subspace wave-guides to create a pulsing signal that radiates through dimensional layers. Specialized equipment aboard Janus Station in the Schatten Star System is configured to received and decode the inter-dimensional signal and send a confirmation back along the same path. Since the flow of time can differ between realities, it should be noted that the reception of the beacon and the corresponding confirmation signal can be out of sync with the actual opening of the wormhole.
The wormhole's geometry must be calculated specifically to match the signal path through subspace, an operation which takes time to complete.
All vessels of the Serenity Concord are equipped with such a beacon.
