Thomas is a likable guy, trusting and outgoing. He can be a bit boastful, especially when he's had a few too many to drink but he tried to curb his behavior. He's reliable and well mannered trying always to give his best impression, especially with what he does for a living. He's got a rather disciplined mind and thinks in a very linear and systematic way. He likes to be thorough and values knowledge and learning as much as he can. He can be excitable and tries to live a lifestyle of few boundaries, seeking truth. He's rarely angry and tends to diffuse tense situation through showing empathy and providing a sympathetic ear. He can be very non-traditional and sees the value in out-of-the-box thinking. He doesn't like to fight and would much prefer to share a drink or two rather than slug it out. Generally he believes that most things can be solved with a friendly smile and an honest desire to listen. He has a nickname, Kye, though he'll only accept it from those very close to him. Only his mother and closest friends can call him that, everyone else he'll politely reassert his proper name.

He is married to Sienna Chiasson Rivet.

Background

From a criminally entangled family tracing its roots back to the Irish Mob and the IRA depending on which area of the family is traced back.

He grew up with a healthy respect for the fact that law didn't cover much of what was right. Has spent most of his life teetering on the edge of a thief / low life and doing what was right, even if it was by his slightly twisted morality. His part of the family is a bit small, though the O'Reilly family is vast. He knows he had a black-sheep great-uncle named Kevin who actually joined Starfleet many years back, though he never knew the man he grew up hearing about how idiotic the move was and how it got him killed on some forgotten planet somewhere.

The O'Reilly's have three general family lines all mixed under the same last name. One of them is into every criminal element one could imagine from weapons trafficking to slave trading. They will deal with anyone and anything, then kill whoever it was if they cross the line. They are brutal, cunning, and not to be trifled with. Then there are the ones who really run the family, politicians, crooked as all hell, but always somehow able to keep their hands clean. If it screws over a few thousand people and took some political power to make happen, you can bet an O'Reilly was involved and made a tidy profit doing it. None of the family really went in with the whole betterment of mankind crap way back in the days of the United Earth days or worse yet when the Federation was formed. That was when they moved off-world.

Some of the first colony ships were from his family moving outward and establishing themselves as needed people throughout the galaxy, and always at a cost.

For Thomas himself, he doesn't like his family much. Cross them and he'll be right with them to extract the pound of flesh for dishonoring his family, but… He stays away from the powerful sects, his mother always told him that there was magic back in his line somewhere and that his great, great, great, grandfather made a pact with a powerful fae to keep them safe from their uncles, cousins, and the whole lot of them. So long as they never went over the line. Thomas never really believed it, kids stories, fairies and the like, he loved his mother but the fact that she still believed in such things was embarrassing. Most of his family that he did talk too were minor hustlers, which was fine by him. Though spend too much time around any of them and they will find you some way to spend every last cent you had. Then have the gall to act bewildered at how much you lost doing it.

Thomas made his way from one soft-con to another, always toeing the line like his relatives until he got enough money to buy a ship after the Dominion War. He ran it alone for a few years before he had enough things lined up and hired a crew. Now, he and his ship run cargo, occasionally smuggle or do the odd bit of less than legal salvaging (and some legal salvage too) but he keeps to himself, makes enough to be comfortable, and leaves it at that. He may not believe if the fair folk but why temp fate right?

He was running some cargo out to Alpha Igneous VII, those guys could party, and the women always were… Well hotter than hot, if you played your cards right you'd even get to spend the night with one. It wasn't unusual for a wife to offer herself to keep a deal going on the favor of her family. What the hell did he care right? As long as she was hot. Made himself a deal with a tidy profit in it, they got what they needed and he even got a taste of a nice cherry on top. Fire for hair, just like his mother when she was young. How could he turn a night with her down?

It wasn't the first girl he'd taken aboard for a while but it was the last. Her name was Sienna Chiasson Rivet and despite his earlier experiences with women traveling aboard his ship, they got along beautifully. She was a skilled rider which helped on some outer-rim worlds and further she had a flare for adventure which was intoxicating to him. She came on board at 18 and a few years later they were married.
