Than Dokidian Prime
Class: | K |
Distance: | Mean of 2.04 x 107 (0.14 AU) |
Period: | Mean of 34.88 Days |
Radius: | 4,120.32 km (0.65 of Earth) |
Gravity: | 0.67 G |
This is relatively small planetoid, too small to be Class M, though has an Oxygen-Nitrogen atmosphere, it is relatively thin due to the planet's small size with a core of iron / silicate. The combination of distance to Than Dokidian and a thin atmosphere also means the planet's surface is bombarded by high energy radiation, primarily gamma radiation. The surface is approximately 47% water with 31% of that being ice, mostly at the ice caps.
The ice does provide a semi-effective radiation shield and prokaryotic microbes exist in the water under the ice, they have evolved to be extremely radiation resistant. Volcanic activity is very active and tectonic shifts are common, likely why the planets oceans are warm enough to evolve microbial life.
There is a single moon designated Alpha, which is unusually large for the size of the planet. They effect each other's orbits with the moon causing extreme tidal shifts throughout the planet's crust and oceans. The orbital path of planet and moon exhibit a wobbling effect making their exact orbital period and distance inconsistent. In addition a peculiar polarization occurs within the planets atmosphere as its moon passes closest to the star, unusually strong electrical storms lasting for 8-12 hours at a time occur approximately every 3-4 days.
Alpha
Class: | D2 |
Distance: | Mean of 223,892 km |
Period: | Mean of 3.8 Days |
Radius: | 952.8 km (0.55 of Earth's Moon) |
Gravity: | 0.09 G |
The moon's composition is similar to that of the planet, indications are a large meteorite or comet passed through the forming proto-planetary dust cloud separating it into two distinct clouds. Primarily iron and silicate with some heavier elements in trace amounts, the high iron content at the core is strongly polarized when the moon passes closest to Than Dokidian.
