The Indus Endurance is the 3rd prototype ship for the classified Mercury Class Starship. She is a specialized vessel designed in conjunction with Starfleet Command, each prototype has unique properties being tested in the field. This particular vessel completed construction on July 15th, 2385 and completed its final inspection on July 20th after several returns to space-dock to adjust the ships systems and some minor programming problems with the main computer interfacing with her stealth systems.

Mission

Her primary mission is classified though it is known that she is commanded by a TACCOM officer and houses a specialized covert operations team.

Experimental Quirks

As with any experimental vessels, the ship has some quirks of her operation. The engineering team for the vessel was hand-picked by the design team to operate her. The ship has a temperamental power system, much like the Defiant Class Starship when it was first introduced, it requires careful monitoring and is prove to overload. Due to this situation the vessels safety interlocks will cut power to prevent a core breech should an overload go unnoticed for too long. Of course, this is subject to manual override, however that action is not recommended.

This particular vessel has an expanded shuttle bay, which houses an entire additional compartment on the deck above for a full maintenance bay. The designers are gathering information on how useful the expanded bay is, even though it cuts down on some of the space for ordinance (such as photon torpedoes) as how it impacts structural integrity.
