Petty Officer 3rd Class Isobel SPARTAN-III Beta-311 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Isobel is a child damaged to an extreme degree, and forced to grow up too fast. She is angry, aggressive, and paranoid. Getting her to trust anyone is an extreme challenge, and she is quicker to shoot than to ask any questions. Quiet, blunt, and with a far-off look in her eyes.
Special Abilities
SPARTAN-III Program augmentations make her extremely strong and durable. Her bones are extremely hard to break, with enhanced senses that give her borderline night vision and lightning-fast reflexes. Her body has been rapidly grown and aged, but the augments will keep her body healthy and combat-ready for many years to come.
Special Skills
Being a SPARTAN-III, she's passed the selection and initiation process. Basic combat training, hand-to-hand fighting, airborne training, survival training, evasion training, and other necessary skills are all taught to candidates. She was given extra leadership training, having been appointed the leader of her team. Her team won the right to become SPARTANs and graduated with top honors, being extremely talented in SERE and assymetrical warfare.
Special Equipment
- Semi-Powered Infiltration Armor
- MA5K Individual Combat Weapon System (Carbine)
- M6D Personal Defense Weapon
- C7 Explosive Foam
- Individual First Aid Kit
Background
Isobel’s first memory is being handed off to a UNSC Marine by her parents, as the skyline burned vibrant orange. She could not tell you what they looked like anymore, but she remembers feelings. Tight hugs, gentle kisses. Some hair brushed out of her eyes. She was barely older than one, she didn't understand what was happening until much later. They told her to be good. There was a tearful, almost silent utterance of “I love you” as the Marine led Isa toward the last shuttle off Jericho VII. There wasn't enough room for her parents.
The Covenant took everything from her, before she was even old enough to realize it. The Marine gave her some peanut butter and jelly from his MRE, and sat her down aboard the shuttle. The next few months would be a bit of a blur, as she was flown out to an orphanage on Tribute and processed. New planet, new people all around her. She lived in a world of ignorance for the next three years, before she was finally old enough to start figuring out what was happening to humanity, and what had already happened to her. The four year old girl did not know how to grieve something she could barely remember. She became increasingly aggressive and troublesome, lashing out at caretakers and fellow residents at the home. This went on for a year, before it was decided to send her to a different orphanage for similarly problematic children to prevent more harm- after she’d attacked and broken the arm of another child.
And that was when ONI arrived. A recruiter, a Petty Officer who’s name has long since faded from Isobel’s memory. She had a scar over her left eye, and said she got it fighting the Covenant. She asked if Isobel wanted to fight the Covenant too, to defend humanity and- most importantly- get revenge. Kill the aliens that killed her parents. Put all that unfocused anger to good work and take it out on the split-lips. Become a SPARTAN, she offered. Isobel accepted. She disappeared, records of her existence were scrubbed. She was taken to the planet Onyx, and stationed at Camp Currahee for training under Lieutenant Commander Kurt Ambrose and Senior Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez. She was taken with around 420 other orphaned refugees around the ages of 5-6 and sorted into a team with five other kids.
The next four years were a daily rhythm of physical training, classroom education, mental conditioning, and fighting. Fighting instructors, other SPARTAN candidates, fighting herself as her body struggled to take the augmentations she’d been given. Bones broke, noses bled, but there was nothing to go back to. No home to cry for, so Isobel persisted. Instructors were fought off, even maimed or killed as her and the other Beta company SPARTANs became lethal and used their anger to fuel their fighting- enhanced by drugs that kept them focused and kept them enraged. Isobel’s team- Fireteam Widow- became one of the top teams in their company. They aced combat exercises, eviscerated other teams in competitions, and scared some of the instructors enough for them to not be messed with. Isobel herself specialized in CQC and evasion, becoming more like a shadow than a girl. She was rarely seen unless she wanted to be, and usually she only let herself get spotted while she was breaking someone’s jaw. They graduated at the top of their class, and were immediately deployed along with the rest of Beta company.
They fought for two years, performing operations against both the Covenant and the Insurrection. They performed wonderfully, eliminating anything that tried to resist them as these SPARTAN-III’s destroyed, captured, or sabotaged human and alien targets alike. Up until Operation: TORPEDO, where Beta company was gathered and sent behind enemy lines to destroy a Covenant shipyard. It was not a battle they were expected to return from, but Isobel allowed herself to hope, afterall Beta company had performed above and beyond all expectations before…
