A decoy drone is launched from a vessel and emits a larger energy signature of similar configuration to the vessel that launched it. The purpose of this is to draw sensors to it and allow the launching vessel to escape or evade fire. They are not always effective and are most effective with automated tracking systems that target the largest of two signals.
