This ring is by all appearances a simple antique star-ruby ring. It was created by an old wizard in the 1100's who had a pension for falling for woman he could not have or that were in some kind of danger. After a lady friend of his died at the hands of her pimp because she could not call for help, he was grief stricken and knew he had to make things right. To this end he worked hard to create this ring. Originally, he did not name it, but would give it as a gift to a new love interest (and take it back if needed). The ring conveys a gift upon the person wearing it and allows them to summon him to their aid when needed.
Usage
The ring uses the elemental energy of Aether to make a connection between the wearer and the one who bestowed the ring. This connection cannot be broken unless the ring is removed, though the ring is supposed to have a lasting (but fading) effect, so that if it is removed the wearer still can call for help for a few hours or even a few days after the event. The owner of the ring can break this, by taking the ring back from the person he gifted it to.
Range
Since the ring uses the element of Aether and thus is bound to all living things, so long as there is life in the universe for it to draw from, it can call back to its original owner, legend even has it that if the need is great enough and the wearer is desperate it enough it may be able to summon the original owner in times of the most dire emergency. Though, the legends of this are fragmented and may be simply embellishments on the original tales.
