The Musae Custodi has many different properties. Some of which seem to be designed to protect the owner of the pendant. The objet itself is a golden locket with several gemstones in a star shape on its front. The locket has the effect of locking away secrets from the conscious mind, it can also lock away any other memories that the wearer wishes. This is why the pendant has the Xi classification, as it is possible for a person to lock away memories of having locked anything away or how to restore them.
Usage
Once the pendant is put on, the chain locks itself around the wearer. The chain itself cannot then be removed until the locket itself is unlocked and opened. Unlocking the pendant is a simple matter of a thought that serves as a password that is then directed and pushed psionically to the pendant. Locking the pendant occurs as soon as it is put on, the pendant then pulls to the surface the urge to direct a singular and specific thought or memory into it - as a compulsion that must be followed. Once done, the pendant is locked to that thought.
Once locked into play it conveys psionic abilities to the wearer, including ability to manipulate elemental forces as well as the fabric of space around the wearer. The wearer is then able to use those abilities and draw in elemental energy through the sapphire in the pendant's surface that then can be used to warp space. A skilled user would even be able to teleport using this ability. Though it would be impossible without some source of elemental energy nearby.
The user can also invoke the pendant to draw off some memory from the conscious mind and lock it away into the pendant, though the exact mechanism or how the user can come to know how to do this is unknown. Documents found with the pendant suggest that this could happen accidentally if a profound enough traumatic event was to occur. Once so bad the wearer desperately wanted to forget.
Purpose
Normally the wearer is aware that the locking thought has locked the pendant. It is unlikely the pendant was designed to actually do harm, but its true purpose is unknown. While it is possible that the pendant is designed to lock away specific memories and give the wearer the ability to protect those memories it is also possible that the effect of stealing away and locking memories from being remembered is a side effect of its intended purpose.
