Background

Chepa was born in the city of tecomatlan four years into the revolutionary war. Her early years were turbulent as she moved with her grandma from town to town to avoid the fighting. Chepa however wanted to be an Adelita just like her mother despite the protests from her grandmother. The stress of the war and of having to move to avoid the battles took a toll on her grandmother who passed away when she was ten. Her mother was nowhere to be found and her father was presumed dead. She did the only thing she could and joined the Adelitas at her tender age. Through the war she and her fellow sisters in arms would grow into a fierce guerrilla force against the mexican government.
