Ring Warp Design

Unlike other vessels of this era the Stratus Class uses a ring-warp design with the reactor channeling power into the entire ring. This allows the vessel to create a much larger stable warp field or a much smaller and more powerful field confined to a smaller area. While it gains these aspects over conventional designs it loses control, the field geometry isn't as versatile. Ultimately this limits its velocity but increases its stability while at warp. The vessel can take significantly more punishment at warp speeds before dropping out of warp and efforts to collapse the warp field will not be as successful as traditional designs.

Central Computer

The vessel is designed with a large central computer located in two cores which work together to control ship functions. The design has a primary computer core which houses the ships AI system while the secondary computer core operates the ships systems directly and the AI works within the primary core controlling systems through the secondary core. This gives the crew the ability to override the ships AI system without sacrificing ship functions and provides redundancy in case of damage.

Communications

The ships communication systems is highly advanced but relies on a centralized subspace antenna array on the dorsal section of the forward hull. The array is powered directly from the ships core and thus has an enhanced range. The communications array assembly also contains the primary sensor array which is integrated into the communications system. While this has a drawback of less redundancy range on both systems is significantly increased. Secondary sensor arrays are located on the warp ring and the main hull of the ship.
