The Chain of Nyx is a long whip that appears to be made of normal black leather, though always looking slightly worn is never is. The whip is a very powerful weapon, but it not a weapon of death by its magical abilities as they cannot cause death.
Magical Abilities
- Material Change
- The whip itself transforms from braided leather into braided dark chains and extends in length to an absurd degree.
- Intelligent Movement
- Once transformed it follows a target, attempting to intelligently wrap around and ensnare them.
- Crushing Despair
- Once holding a victim the whip produces a cone of crushing and unyielding despair soaking into every thought and feeling the victim attempts to combat the feelings with.
- Dark Tentacles
- The individual chains unwrap from each other and spread out to grapple and pull in a target.
- Protection from Death
- While holding a victim the whip will protect that victim from death, though each passing moment and each bit of damage taken increases the Crushing Despair.
Usage
The whip may be used by anyone as a general whip of masterwork or low-enchanted quality (it will not become worn, damaged, or frayed in any way). The abilities that change it are unique to women, as per the design of the Goddess Nyx (Goddess of Night) it was created by. Its altering substance activates and readies the other abilities which can be used in various combinations. While it always prevents death while a victim is being held the Dark Tentacles and Crushing Despair can be used in concert with each other or separately.
It is possible to trick the whip though a spell or magical object that alters the effective gender of the one holding the whip, this alteration need not be a physical change if the magical forces can be so constructed as to make a male appear magically to be female.
