Here should be a bunch of text about bob here, about a paragraph if possible, no less than a sentence though. This should be a short summary, mostly used for personality notes when a full background is later in the sheet.

Skills

Some bad ass skills go here. Specifying the actual category and class of each skill is not necessary, but you an. Should be in the following format:

Skill Name
Description of skill.

This is done through the following code:

; Skill Name : Description of skill.

Or for skills that don't need descriptions, one can simply use a list format.

  • Skill A
  • Skill B
  • Skill C

Now for the code to do that:

* Skill A
* Skill B
* Skill C

Now if you have skills that are a mix of bullet points and things that require definitions, generally one does this.

  • Skill D
Some information about the skill.

This is done with this code:

* Skill D
: Some information about the skill.

How about skills with sub-skills?

  • Skill E
    • Skill E1
    • Skill E2
    • Skill E3

And the code to do that:

* Skill E
** Skill E1
** Skill E2
** Skill E3

What about skills that require a lot of explanation, like, a lot? Make them their own sub-section.

Some Really Complicated Skill

Here is all about that really complicated skill and the rules for it, what one can expect, etc. This will appear in the Table of Contents for the page allowing it to be accessed easily.

And here is the code:

Abilities

Now for your awesome innate abilities. These follow the same rules as above with the same kind of code snippets.

Background

A lot of people get confused here. A background isn't required, but it can be helpful for a few reasons; the biggest of which is that one can record shit that happens in game here, who it happens with, and the like. This should be a growing part of the character bio with major events that happen before entry into the game and during the game.

Equipment

Here is a list of stuff the character has and follow the rules much like the skills and abilities. For designating things contained specifically in a trunk, backpack, ship, or in another specific place one should use the subsection method. Really the only time explinations are needed is if there is a unique item that requires a description as to what it is.

Formatting This Page

This section is, of course, not to be included in an actual character bio.

There are some formatting standards which need to be mentioned. First off, if your character has two names as is normal in much of the world with a Given Name and a Surname, you should put the following code at the top of the page:

This tells the rendering engine for categories and searches how to sort your page.

Additionally, pay attention to the Status line of the Character Box template, it is kind of important. Moderators should make sure a character that has yet to be approved has this line in the Character Box template:

|status=Unapproved

For character that are denied or otherwise not in the game, replace Unapproved with Denied, Banned, Abandoned, Deceased, Missing, etc.. See the Character Box Template page for more information on that.

What Not to Do

Realize that the wiki processes text in a specific way, unless there is a clear blank line between two blocks of text they will be displayed within the rendered page as one block of text.

Some block of text.
Some other block of text.

This displays as:

Some block of text. Some other block of text.

So if you want to have multiple paragraphs, put a full black line between them.

Further, use the formatting tools at your disposal, headings, lists, tables, etc. There is an abundance of information about how to format a wiki page. I really don't want to see this:

Skill 1 - Some stuff, Skill 2 - Some more stuff

That should turn into:

Skill 1
Some stuff
Skill 2
Some more stuff

It is neater, cleaner, and easier to read.

I also don't want to see someone's page start off with skills or abilities. Pages must have some blurb about the character at the top of the page, and it must be in a full sentence and not just a list of adjectives.

Do not do:

Lively, Sadistic, Annoying

Instead do:

He is a lively person with sadistic tendencies, but can get annoying sometimes.

Since this is a role play setting, it is expected that one use complete sentences.

Disambiguation Pages

For a character that has multiple versions, one has to create a disambiguation page, this is done through he addition of a notice at the top of a page.

{{Disambiguation Stub|name=Character Name|type=character}}

This will create a notice with a link to a disambiguation page. This page should contain a list of all the character bios for all the versions of the character, and any explanation or other information needed about them. The same notice needs to go up at the top of every single page linked. See Sample Disambiguation Page for information about that.

Finally Categories

Within the Wiki we have a lot of categories. Most of the time the server staff will apply categories and some categories are automatic based on the character status and contents of the character box. If in doubt, ask someone about how to and where to categorize your character.
