She was built originally by the Federation for long term stellar observations in distant star systems. Thought it was left without the ability for internal power generation other than minimal life support it has been recently been refit for modern scientific duty, though the project it was refit for has recently been undergoing review leaving the ship unassigned.
The primary computer system was completely replaced and the newer ALICE interface was installed on top of the LCARS standard including support for the holographic systems interface.
The ship was originally equipped with two specially refit type 18 shuttle craft for use in probing deep into a stars corona using the metaphysic shield technology. These have since been reassigned to another project due to the original project review being called for. Since then it has been left without support craft but with long term support equipment and supplies for two shuttle craft.
Service History
- Shakedown cruise completed in 2377 assigned to project Icarus based out of Deep Space 9.
- Project Icarus under review in 2378, ship left unassigned at Deep Space 9.
Primary Modifications from Starfleet Design Specifications
- New bridge module after refit - same module used by the Raven Class ship (used to increase operating performance with a smaller crew).
- New computer ALICE interface and addition of Automated Support Robots (AKA Drones).
- Holographic projection system installed throughout the ship.
