USS Vanguard
USS Vanguard (NCC-75882)
Information
Class: Venture Class Starship
Commanding Officer: Lt. Commander Darco
Quote: "The single simplest reason why human space flight is necessary is this, stated as plainly as possible: keeping all your breeding pairs in one place is a retarded way to run a species." - Warren Ellis

She is configured for doing long term warp field geometry experiments. Its warp drive and field geometry are both modified extensively to perform the experiments. As such the warp coils are designed to adjust the field geometry during flight in a wide variety and diverse ways.

The sensor systems on the ship have also been outfitted and calibrated for sunspace, temporal, and magnetic field study in accordance with the mission parameters.

Service History

The ship has no service history other than its commission in 2377 and initial shakedown cruise in 2379 and then assignment to the Vulcan Science Academy, Starfleet Branch for testing. Lt. Commander Darco is the ship's commander. The current mission has the ship being used for long term warp field stress and maneuverability testing. Darco lives on the ship and performs tests, communicating with the Vulcan Science Academy via subspace.

As part of the testing there are a number of automated evacuation stations set up in a testing area should problems arise to allow for immediate beam-out should that ever become necessary.

Warp Speed Statistics

  • Emergency Speed of Warp 9.95 for 5 minutes.
  • Maximum Speed of Warp 8
  • Cruising Speed of Warp 5

All warp velocities are subject to change due to the nature of the ship's testing modifications, though not all warp field modifications are stable or safe.
