The Galaxy Class starship was the most advanced starship in the Federation fleet during the late 23rd century, up until the late 2370's where it was replaced by the Sovereign Class Starship. The design was used for one of the most historically pivotal vessels in the fleet, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D). The design also saw significant use during the Dominion War, the USS Odyssey was sent to the Gamma Quadrant early in the building conflict and was destroyed by Dominion forces, showing just how formidable they could truly be.

Mark 3 Design
The small craft went through another design refit to integrate the experimental Gravitational Displacement Drive which is well suited for the vessel's size and shape. The oval hull design and sloping edges provide a much more stable platform from which to manipulate gravity and can be done at a significant cost savings contrasted with other vessels.
