Similar to Warp Drive this type of drive is designed for one (perhaps 2) uses. A matter/antimatter reactor charges a small number of field coils (usually 1 or 2) with high energy warp plasma when activated. Unlike a traditional warp drive system the matter/antimatter reactor does not sustain power to the drive coil but rather, as soon as the coil is saturated the vessel is pushed to warp velocity for a very small fraction of a second.
Usage
This kind of drive is used primary for escape or to gain a tactical advantage on some small fighter craft.
Limitations
In most designs the drive coil will burn out after its initial use and need to be replaced, while in others the vessel will no longer have enough fuel to jump again. In rare cases a vessel designed with this capacity becomes depleted in fuel and has its drive coil burned out in the process.
