The Void is a region of space completely enclosed in a strong subspace / gravitational field. Its formation is a mystery but evidence suggests that it might have been made through some means using technology and not a naturally occurring phenomena. Numerous ships, space stations, and probes have inadvertently entered the Void though its existence is largely unknown.

Size

The Void is defined by a 10 lightyear radius from its central star, the only star in the region. The star's original name is unknown but it seems to somehow either be the direct source of the field or somehow powering the field itself. Section 31 has been aware of the Void as an abstract concept from anecdotal evidence for at least the last 5 years. In fact, it was the concept of this void that lead directly to the formation of the Assyria Base project.

The area is home to an incalculable amount of debris though fully intact space craft can be found there. Since the area of the region is roughly 4500 cubic lightyears it is possible that the area contains a virtually infinite number of ships or stations both in fragments or as entirely whole structures.

Entrance

A vessel entering the area is subject to extraordinary forces both in the realms of normal radiation from heat energy all the way up into cosmic radiation but also gravitational, subspace, and particle bombardment. Entry is gained through an uncontrolled burst of subspace energy interacting with strong gravitational fields. More information is not known other than that it is extremely likely any biological matter that might pass into this area would be completely destroyed by crossing the barrier. In theory, it would be nearly impossible for an active warp drive system to remain intact and operational when transitioning through the barrier.

Survival from entering the Void is improbable.

The Barrier

Radiation from the star at the center of the void impacts the barrier and causes it to luminesce in points like stars that come and go over a period of days making navigation difficult, but also can fool a computer or navigator into thinking they are in normal space when they first arrive.
