Background

Buddy was originally a Spacer's Choice Advertising Drone, (SPAD for short) stationed on Groundbreaker. He worked hard day and night to provide "accurate" information to consumers about various brands in the Halcyon Holdings Board.

Unfortunately... Well, long story short some Sublight contractor got a-hold of him and turned him into a combat drone for his own personal security. Not that Buddy minded, he was a non-sentient being.

Of course, being able to fight well requires some ability to think, so he became semi-sentient. Sentient enough to kill, but not really for conversation.

He never got close to his primary caretaker, thankfully, because at some point the Sublight guy got himself eaten alive by Mantisaurs. Buddy was left alone for a year before Sublight salvaged their employee's ship, and Buddy was slated for deactivation amd disassembly.
