Ad Undas is the code name for a secret United States Navy installation located under the city of Los Angeles, California during the mid 20th to the early 21st century. Reports of the nature of this base are hard to come by, it is a highly classified facility with multiple layers of secrecy protecting it. It is doubtful that even the President or the Armed Services Committees of Congress know of its existence.

Purpose

While the base has a large contingent of US Navy and Marine personnel above ground the underground facilities house personnel of a more unique and special nature. Though the exact compliment and composition is unknown, the base houses those who have special abilities of some kind which defy conventional explanation or categorization. Because the nature of these personnel is not always predictable, this facility is considered a last chance facility. Most of its unique personnel are in some way burdened by less than spotless records, attempts to rehabilitate, or otherwise unfit for duty at a normal facility. Those who are assigned to the base are often made aware early on that if they cannot find a way to be useful and stable at this facility they will find an unknown and at times sinister fate waiting for them on the other side.

Specialized Units

The facility has several specialized units for training, testing, and service.

Alpha

Hybrids and shapeshifters. A varied group of personnel who can assume the shape of or qualities of natural animals. While a fair portion of these units are made up of were-creatures (people who can shape-shift either partially or in full into the form of an animal) it also has a number of those who have been the subject of genetic testing which has left them with qualities and traits from the animal kingdom, who cannot shift.

Beta

Abilities of the mind. Far less varied in nature to the Alpha group, these people through either natural (though mostly mysterious) means or through some kind of supernatural or paranormal means have gained the ability to use their minds to effect the real world, these traits are generally filed under Psionic Abilities. Beta has developed its own research into such abilities, their uses, and how to cultivate skills in those who possess the natural gifts required.

Gamma

Abilities which defy the laws of physics using an unknown form of energy. The colloquial explanation for these abilities is the term magic. People with magical traits are able to harness an unexplained but powerful form of energy which science seems unable to detect directly, but rather detects by its effects on the world around it. Often magic users are able to completely defy conventional physics. '"Gamma section has its own field of study, much like Beta section which studies the mind. Gamma studies this other-worldly energy the control and use of that energy.

Delta

Fringe science that deals with the paranormal and where the preternatural and supernatural meet the conventional world of science. Activities of this group are focused entirely on research and development. Such activities are often in violation of not only the methods and practices of science but its ethics as well. In addition this section also studies the occult. A research and development division devoted to the study and understanding of the occult, its meanings, and the mythos behind them. Combining the occult with fringe science is at times gruesome combination but is not to be dismissed or underestimated.

Construction

There are secret entrances to the base throughout the city, mostly in abandoned buildings whose land is owned by shell companies created by the US Government to maintain cover. In addition, outside the city the underground complex connects with a small airfield and military base above ground. Though this base is also classified, those who are stationed at the above ground installation have little or no knowledge of the underground complex, again for security reasons. This above ground portion of the base is located several miles from the outskirts of Los Angeles connecting to the underground complex via 2 distinct tunnels capable of moving large equipment, and 1 auxiliary tunnel big enough for personnel and similarly sized equipment.
