The bonding process cannot be reversed by any known means, even after a person dies it is likely (though untested) that the crystal can no longer be bonded to anyone else. When the bond forms the psychic abilities of the person are increased, to a varying degree depending on the person allowing them to use telepathy or sense the presence of others.
