The Mobile Holographic Emitter is a star of Federation technology. Based from the design found by the USS Voyager during an inadvertent encounter with technology front he 29th century the emitter is largely beyond Federation technology and very hard to reproduce. The complexity of the original device has made replication difficult and only a small percentage of the devices turn out functional using replicator technology.

Production

Devices made with 24th century components and being guided by scans of the original device have been prototyped but are still not fully functional. It is rumored that there was a security leak and that the prototype designs did escape, this has not been confirmed and no units have yet to be seen in the field.

Starfleet Corp. of Engineers

Prototype Rev. 1

The first revision of the prototype mobile emitter was clunky, required an external power source for operating more than 30-40 minutes at a time. While it did work in this state, an external wireless power supply was required for continued operation. The device was clunky and difficult to program, with limited memory.

Prototype Rev. 2

The second revision fixed some of these issues but at the cost of device memory. While the power source and emitters were of better quality, the device no longer had the memory for a complete holographic matrix and required an external data source.

Specialized Models

Created by Damien Smith

Damien Smith acquired plans to the device and began to make heavy modifications. While the Starfleet Corp. of Engineers model failed to function, his model was able to function using a combination of advanced computer technology such as the Encapsulated Computer, cybernetics technology developed by Starfleet for experimental Android development as well as various components from across the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Quadrants. In particular some borg technology was mixed with scavenged technology from Dominion vessels. His model is fully functional.

Removable Module

A removable memory module is the core of this device where the band has the holographic emitters.

Created by Isabelle Quinn

Another model was also produced with astounding compactness by Isabelle Quinn for her own personal use. The design is related to the 2nd generation of devices created by Starfleet Corp. of Engineers and is fully functional.
