Originally part of a greater being kokabiel was split from his brothers by Elohim for fear of their combined power. The three were cast down to earth and imprisoned far from each other in the hopes of keeping them apart indefinitely. Despite El's efforts his own creation humanity would soo be drawn to them and attempt to puzzle out what happened. One by one they were being released from their captivity. Despite the natural disasters El sent to humanity their progress persisted. Finally when humanity unlocked Kokabiel's tablet to release him El had enough and sent a great flood to cover the earth and start anew. What El did not anticipate was that their power even while separated would be enough to challenge him. Kokabiel's other two brothers were able to keep the great deluge from killing most humans and kept some land from being flooded. El now desperate to keep them from uniting put a curse on Kokabiel. The same curse he used on Kain the first mortal murderer. El's hope being that it would permanently keep them apart. Because of the curse he gained a mark on his forehead and was forced into human form. Kokabiel lived a hard life from then on, life in the new diluvian world was cruel. He did what he could to survive though without any affiliation to anyone he usually resorted to scavenging and wandering.
His earliest memory is of being rescued by a ship in the middle of the ocean. Even in this state the one thing he knew for certain was his own name, but it was to him only a fragment. He was taken in by the crew of the ship that saved him for a time. Though he was still forced to work and contribute. He quickly picked up the skills he needed to keep working as they would threaten to dump him overboard if he didn't improve. There was a dramatic shift however when the vessel he was in was attacked by a small pirate fleet. Most of the crew died and few survived only to be left drifting aimlessly in the ocean, easy pickings for the monstrous things within the deep of the sea. By some miracle (at least in his mind) He survived and ended up at the artificial atoll Qyn. Once again he was forced into indentured servitude. Here however he discovered his immortality. Since Qyn was relatively well defended he was able to go many years without the threat of pirates. In those years he saw that the people around him started to age and wither while he did not. He realized that the people would grow very weary of him as they did not trust magicians nor jinn. He bought his own freedom and saved enough over decades to buy his own boat. Sailing off into the waters to survive on his own. Eventually he was forgotten by Qyn and was as much a stranger there as the other atolls he visited. Never staying for too long nor making many social bonds. He was focused on finding out who or what he was first. Legends told that to the north at the edge of the world lies a place of knowledge and power. So he set sail towards the north to find answers.
