The Pandoric Rift is an area heavy in temporal energy mostly in the form of unstable tachyons radiating from the center. When left in its natural state the rift allows random passage through time and usually is not stable enough for more than a momentary bridge between two locations in space-time. The rift itself is of little danger other than as a navigational hazard for someone who may not know it is there. Coming into physical contact with the rift can be disastrous to a ship crossing its event horizon, but the rift exerts only minor gravitational forces and the other distortions it does release are not dangerous beyond that event horizon.

When harnessed and managed with a containment field these bridges can be manipulated and managed to convey energy back and forth in space-time. There is still some amount of randomness involved and locks between locations can shift and fluctuate.

The rift is located in the Mordag Nebula.

Rift containment is maintained by Starbase Pandora using 20 primary field coils set in stationary orbit around the rift. Another 10 secondary field coils set in a spheroid orbital pattern assist in accounting for disruptions within the rift and in manipulating the rift geometry and sending signals through the rift.
