Sal can be a slow thinker, though he plans things out exceptionally well to make up for this shortcoming. As a commanding officer he is quiet, reserved, and slow to judge relying on facts. This allowed him to serve as a counterpoint to his friend, Lance Thomas, and Lance's rash way of making decisions and general lack of planning. Off duty Sal is quiet but less reserved, easily speaks his mind and stands up for others. He can be relatively selfless but has a strong set of moral convictions about self-reliance that can get int he way of helping others. To his friends he is fiercely loyal, but makes friends rather slowly. One should never mistake the fact that he is friendly with being within his circle of friends, however, as he is friendly to most people. When faced with conflict, Sal tends toward diplomacy and diffusion rather than out-and-out confrontation.

History
Sal was recruited into Section 31 right after graduating from Starfleet Academy where he showed an extraordinary aptitude for covert operations. Graduating at the top of his class in areas of combat and stealth, Section 31 stationed him at various locations throughout the Federation where he had a stellar career rising to the rank of Lt. Commander. Eventually he was added to the team of then Captain Lance Thomas. He eventually left the service of Section 31 shortly after newly promoted Admiral Thomas in early 2360 assisting to facilitate the acquisition of the USS Rising Sun.
In 2376 he was given command of the SS Olam, later he retained this command adding the SS Olam to the vessels assigned to the Blazing Umbra Station where he is commanding officer.
After the death of Fleet Admiral Candy Poole, he was promoted to Admiral and given the temporary job of running Blue Team for Solas Tempus, as Admiral Lance Thomas was promoted to Fleet Admiral to fill the vacancy left by Candy. He didn't like it, never did like being promoted due to death, but he'd do his job. Right now, his job was also doing Lance's job, who had not even changed his insignia yet. Nor had he issued orders, but instead Sal was running the show from behind the scenes, it wouldn't last forever but he was able to keep it together for a while at least and give Lance time to heal.
During an operation in 1520, he was given command of the STV Zealot Star following the intentional destruction of the SS Olam. Once the operation is over, he and the rest of Solas Tempus will return to 2385.
After the return to the present, Lance Thomas was abducted and Sal was promoted to Fleet Admiral and took over primary duties to run the organization. Even after Lance was rescued, Sal retains his leadership position with the blessing of his friend, Lance. During this same time he was seeing Sheila Aspel, though the relationship didn't last it made him realize that he was lonely and wanted companionship. Sal began attempting to make room in his life for a partner.
