	The Federation Class starship was designed to be a multipurpose combination carrier and long term science and patrol vessel for the Federation. Few of the vessels were ever built, as the design of the [[Constitution Class Starship]] was seen to be more relevant to the Federation charter at the time. The vessels were designed to supersede the Constitution Class in combat situations, however due to the resource cost of construction, many projects favored the continued use of the well-known and already battle tested Constitution Class, popularized largely by the command of James T. 			The original 23rd century design had several shortcomings in both power source and computing power. Her space-frame was kept but the design was upgraded significantly before Solas Tempus began construction.
