Here you will find all things of the Solas Tempus universe as well as it's associated settings such as Angelic Sins. The Wiki is used as a repository of all information about the role play. There are several key categories Category:People is a good place to start for character information. For OOC information about the role play setting and such there is the Category:OOC which has information that doesn't lend well to being expressed in the in universe style of the rest of the wiki. If you're not familiar with role playing games, you might want to just open up the Terminology page in a separate tab so that the jargon we use can be easily looked up.

Before getting into more, however, I would advise looking at the Site Rules page. If you decide to join the game, we do expect that you'll know what the rules are.

The Basics

The setting is a modified Star Trek universe based on an organization called (as one might guess) Solas Tempus that has the task of protecting the timeline from alterations. The organization is not affiliated directly with the United Federation of Planets or Starfleet but does have a number of treaties with the governments of most known worlds, even some of those that are rather unfriendly toward the Federation as a whole. Here is more information on the Solas Tempus setting is available at that link.

There is an associated setting of Angelic Sins which is based on a World of Darkness kind of feel, but diverges significantly from the setting. The core workings of the setting were not created by the administrators of this game and setting but we do have permission to use it and modify it for our own purposes. As such there are a lot of details that are not quite finished. Within the continuity of Solas Tempus, the universe of Angelic Sins operates as a supernatural pre-history for Solas Tempus set in the modern day (circa 20th and 21st centuries). This does not always mesh well with the details of the Star Trek timeline, we know and understand this and for that we use what the moderators here like to call The Fudge (in reference to fudging something).

Where to Play

We have a number of ways to play. The two primary methods are via the forum which does not only cater to the Solas Tempus universe but also caters to a great number of other settings as well. Our most popular method of play is that of our Discord Server where most of our current activity takes place.

Joining

Anyone is welcome to join, joining the chat games requires character approval so I suggest that after taking a look at the setting itself if you're still interested in joining, you start there. If you're looking to join the forum, then I direct you to start there and seek a game thread, as the forum has many games going on at the same time each thread has control over what characters may enter their threads.

IC / OOC Chat

There are two kinds of rooms, IC (in character) and OOC (out of character). While in an IC channel everything operates from in-character preceptive. Players should be careful not to god-mod and out of character chatter should be kept to a minimum and surrounded by double-brackets or double-parithesis - [[]] (()).

When writing in character we prefer the use of the 3rd person narrative. This gives the most flexibility and often we write in a paragraph form. These are not required, just preferred. It can be useful to use italics or other rich formatting, Discord uses Markdown Language which can enhance the readability of posts. The most common way is for actions to appear in italics. Overall so long as everyone can tell what a character is saying and doing, it's all good.

Some may find it nice to play multiple character. When doing so players should make a point to be clear about who is doing what. Play can get muddled pretty quickly. Using character names within a text block may sound redundant but it can make sure that other players don't lose the thread of what's going on.

All that being said, we are not sticklers for grammar or form. The focus is on having a good time and this is not a workshop on english grammar.

Bots

We have a good number of bots for people to use. Most bots have their own help information. Help for each bot can be found using the following commands:

  • For M-5 use !help
  • For RPBot use %help

The bot we use most is M-5 which is a Mee6 bot and the RPBot which allow us to keep a character list and URL's for profiles, images, short descriptions, and the like for characters. It also provides dice functionality when we have need of it.
